Product Design Systems Engineer - HMI Design

The role

As part of our Naval Combat Systems group, the Product Design Systems Engineer - HMI Desif will be responsible for CMS requirements and design. The role includes a significant component of Design Assurance with the various stakeholders, such as Project/CS Engineering, Software, Integration, Hardware and speciality engineering (Safety, Security and ILS).

Within the assigned tasks/activities and as necessary for the specific phase of the development lifecycle, undertake the following according to agreed requirements, cost and schedule:

  • CMS level analysis and design cognisant of the overall systems functionality and in consideration of the capabilities and roadmap for the Global 9LV Product and the RAN
  • Collaboration with projects and combat system engineers to clearly define scope, resolve issues / risks and ensure alignment of project and customer expectations with the CMS development
  • Ongoing coordination (Design Assurance) of system engineering activities with other engineering disciplines/teams, including software, hardware, logistics, safety and security, ensuring CMS (software and hardware) requirements and design are well understood and checking progress/alignment of technical solutions via regular meetings and artefact reviews
  • Participation in design reviews meetings (e.g. SRR, PDR, CDR), working groups and demonstrations with internal and external stakeholders
  • Specification and management of change to engineering baselines for assigned capability/system/product.

Flexible work arrangements such as hybrid work from home / office, 9 day fortnight and part time (0.8 FTE minimum) will be considered for this role.

About you

Your skills and experience will include:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience in, applying system engineering processes, standards, methodologies and approaches to develop SE outputs over several parts of the SE lifecycle.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams and build relationships with internal and external customers and stakeholders
  • Experience in producing and reviewing technical documentation
  • Well-developed communication skills (both written and oral).
  • Demonstrated ability to analyse problems in a structured and scientific manner.
  • Good problem solving skills and the ability to develop creative and innovative solutions.
  • Well-developed decision-making skills.


As Defence security clearance is required for this role, applicants must be Australian citizens and eligible to obtain and maintain an NV1 clearance.
